Meet Our Academic Deans

Our academic deans strive to foster a learning environment that cultivates professional work and the development of manufacture-level skills.

School of Technology

Andres L. Carrano, PhD, was appointed dean of the School of Engineering, constructive Aug. 1, 2020. Dr. Carrano arrives at Fairfield from the Allen E. Paulson College of Engineering and Computing at Georgia Southern University, where he was a professor and acquaintance dean for research. He previously held administrative and endowed positions at Auburn Academy and Rochester Plant of Technology.

At Auburn, Dr. Carrano founded and co-directed the 3D-Printed BioSurfaces Laboratory and the International Research Group in Sustainable Pallets. At RIT, he founded and served equally director of the nationally recognized, award-winning Toyota Production Systems Laboratory. He was also instrumental in the development and commitment of a principal'south program in sustainable engineering at RIT, the first of its kind in the U.S.

In add-on to prior faculty appointments at universities in Nippon, Turkey, and Venezuela, Dr. Carrano served as a Fulbright scholar in Italian republic in 2018, and was awarded a NASA inquiry fellowship at the Marshall Space Flight Center in 2016. He earned his MS and PhD degrees in industrial and systems engineering from North Carolina State Academy, and his BS degree in industrial engineering science from Universidad Católica Andres Bello — the oldest of three Jesuit universities in Venezuela.

Dolan School of Business

Zhan Li, DBA, former professor and dean of the School of Economic science and Business Administration at St. Mary's College of California, serves as the new dean of the Dolan School of Concern and professor of marketing, following a national search.

During his tenure as dean at St. Mary'southward, Dr. Li developed innovative and integrative curricula, educatee success, and career development programs that resulted in the highest enrollments and revenues in the college'south history at both the undergraduate and graduate level. Nether his leadership pupil retentiveness, graduation, and employment rates improved significantly. He also built strong connections within business and local communities that produced resources, internships, and jobs for students and the school.

Dr. Li received a DBA and an MBA from Boston University's School of Management, and a BS in Industrial Engineering from the Harbin Institute of Engineering, China. Prior to becoming acquaintance dean he was chair of USF School of Business and Direction, a visiting professor at the University of California Berkeley, and a visiting professor of Marketing at Peking Academy. During his time at the USF School of Business and Management he received five Outstanding Enquiry Awards, 2 Outstanding Teaching Awards, and the Outstanding Service Award.

Schoolhouse of Education and Human Development

Laurie L. Grupp, PhD, formerly associate provost for faculty diplomacy at Providence College, was appointed dean of Fairfield's School of Education and Human Development in July 2020.

Dr. Grupp's career at Providence College spanned near 2 decades and also included roles as director of the Center for Teaching Excellence, the provost's advisor on faculty development initiatives, and chair and associate professor in the Elementary Special Teaching Section. Prior to Providence, she taught at Buffalo State College in the Exceptional Education Section.

With an accent on equity and admission, Dr. Grupp'due south early on inquiry focused on the school experiences of bilingual and English learners. Recently, her piece of work has focused on pedagogy, learning, and educational development in higher education. She will play a vital role in directing the implementation of GSEAP'due south vision to expand and raise community partnerships, and increase and diversify graduate programs.

Dr. Grupp earned her MA and PhD degrees in curriculum and instruction with a concentration in multicultural bilingual special education from New Mexico State University. She holds a BA in psychology and philosophy from Boston College.

Marion Peckham Egan School of Nursing and Health Studies

Dr. Meredith Wallace Kazer completed her BSN degree Magna Cum Laude at Boston University. Following this, she earned a MSN in medical-surgical nursing with a specialty in geriatrics from Yale Academy and a PhD in nursing research and theory development at New York University (NYU).

During her time at NYU she was awarded a pre-doctoral fellowship at the Hartford Establish for Geriatric Nursing. In this capacity she became the original author and editor of Endeavor This: Best Practices in Geriatric Nursing series. She was the managing editor of the Periodical of Applied Nursing Research and the research brief editor for the periodical and is currently editor-in-master of the Edifice Salubrious Academic Communities Journal.

Dr. Kazer is the author of numerous journal articles and book chapters. She published Prostate Cancer: Nursing Assessment Management and Care which won an American Journal of Nursing Volume of the Year Laurels. Preceding this, she was the associate editor of The Geriatric Nursing Research Assimilate, and the second edition of the Encyclopedia of Nursing Enquiry. She also published and edited a case studies book for advanced practice, all of which won American Journal of Nursing Volume of the Year Awards. She is the past recipient of the Springer Publishing Company Award for Applied Nursing Research and the Virginia Henderson Laurels for Outstanding Contributions to Nursing Research.

In 2014, Dr. Kazer was named among the 15 top adult gerontology professors. In 2015, she was named the 10th most influential dean of nursing in the The states. In 2018 she received the Connecticut League for Nursing President's award for furthering the mission and goals of the organization. She is an adult and gerontological principal care nurse practitioner and currently maintains a practice with a focus on chronic illness in older adults.

Higher of Arts and Sciences

Dr. Greenwald serves equally the dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Fairfield University. Prior to joining Fairfield on July 1, 2017, he served as the dean of the School of Humanities & Social Sciences at Brooklyn College CUNY.

Dr. Greenwald has a strong background in liberal arts didactics, having served in both public and private institutions. Before serving as dean at Brooklyn College, he was the executive dean at St. Joseph'due south College in New York, and the chair and founding managing director of the Business Studies Programme, dean of Graduate Instruction, and managing director of University Partnerships at Drew Academy, among many other appointments. He has been a instructor of history, concern and sociology since 1995, and received his PhD in American History from New York University.

Library and University Librarian

Christina South. McGowan was appointed to lead the operations of Fairfield University's DiMenna-Nyselius Library as dean of the library and University librarian in January 2020.

McGowan was named interim Academy librarian in June 2019, and previously served as assistant Academy librarian for Reference and Circulation Services from 2011 until May 2019, every bit head reference librarian from 2003 until 2011, and every bit senior reference librarian. Her accomplishments include providing leadership in the development and implementation of reference and circulation services, and leading and managing all aspects of the Reference Department with functional supervision of Reference Services, Information Literacy, and Outreach.
